Nepali Climber Kami Rita Sherpa Sets New World Record with 31st Ascent of Mount Everest

Kathmandu — Legendary mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa, known globally as the “Everest Man,” has achieved an extraordinary milestone by summiting Mount Everest for the 31st time, further extending his own world record.

The 55-year-old climber from Nepal first reached the world’s highest peak in 1994, and more than three decades later, he continues to set new records in the Himalayas. His latest ascent took place on Tuesday, as part of a commercial expedition.

“I was just doing my job,” Sherpa humbly stated after the climb. Reflecting on his 30th summit in May 2024, he had said, “I’m happy for the record, but records are eventually broken.”

Nearly all of Sherpa’s ascents have been while guiding clients to the summit, showcasing both his endurance and his dedication to Nepal’s thriving mountaineering industry.

Meanwhile, another rising star in Nepal’s mountaineering community, Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa, 29, accomplished a remarkable feat of his own — climbing Mount Everest four times in just 15 days. His final ascent was on May 23, and he returned to Kathmandu on Tuesday.

“It was a very tough task, but I’m proud. I made it a success,” Gyalzen Sherpa said, speaking through his guiding company 8K Expeditions.

These remarkable achievements highlight Nepal’s continued legacy in the mountaineering world and the indomitable spirit of Sherpa climbers, who remain at the heart of every Everest season.
